The housing co-op sector in Canada is made up of over 2,100 housing co-operatives, with a quarter of a million members in over 90,000 households in every province and territory.
CHF Canada is the Canadian umbrella organization for co-op housing. Its purpose is to unite, represent and serve the co-op housing community across the country, and to link Canada with co-op housing around the world.
Local federations and CHF Canada regional offices give local support and services to member housing co-ops nation-wide.
Many housing co-ops hire staff or sign contracts with management companies to carry out core business tasks.
Staff associations are networking groups of co-op housing staff that provide their members with support and shared information, and a range of services that can include training and legal advice.
Staff associations represent their members at regional and national levels of the housing co-op sector. They maintain active membership in regional co-op housing federations and CHF Canada. Staff associations elect a co-op employee to a position on CHF Canada’s Ontario Region Council.
